Southern Minnesota consist of the following counties
Dakota– Dakota County is the third most populous county in Minnesota. The estimated population is 417,486. The Minnesota and Mississippi River boarder Dakota County. Dakota county is made up of 1/3 urban, 1/3 suburban and 1/3 rural for land use.
Scott– Scott County is one of the fastest growing counties in Minnesota increasing by 55% since 1990. Scott county is mainly rural but also a mix of commercial, industrial and housing development. The population estimate is 143,680. Also home to Canterbury Park, Elko Speedway and Mystic Lake.
Rice– Rice County is located about 50 miles south of Mpls & St. Paul. With a population estimate of 65,400 as of 2016. The Cannon River flows Northeast through Rice County.
Goodhue– Goodhue Counties largest city is Red Wing. Goodhue has a population estimate of 46,435. Goodhue counties northeastern border is made up of Lake Pepin and Mississippi River.
Le Sueur – Le Sueur County is located about 60 miles south of Minneapolis & St. Paul. Le Sueur is a major producer of agricultural commodities in Minnesota. Le Sueur county owns three of the accesses of the Minnesota River so residents can enjoy the river. Le Sueur county has an estimated population of 27,663.
